Back to Life Again

There are times when a person’s own words need no amplification or clarification. For Michael, who suffered a traumatic brain injury, it seems only a few words are enough for the world to understand what an impact RAOC has had on his recovery.

“Getting a job now, after I’ve gone through the things that I have
with my disabilities,” says Michael, “is going to bring me back to life
again. Coming from the fight I’ve gone through… it will very much
help me. Nessa (Michael’s job coach at RAOC) helps me find jobs
I think will be good for me.”

“Getting a job now, after I’ve gone through the things that I have with my disabilities,” says Michael, “is going to bring me back to life again. Coming from the fight I’ve gone through…it will very much help me. Nessa (Michael’s job coach at RAOC) helps me find jobs I think will be good for me.”

Many in Rockbridge County are born disadvantaged with intellectual disabilities. But imagine if you, like Michael, suffered an injury where your so-called “normal” life was turned into an uphill struggle to speak and function due to traumatic brain injury.

As a supported employment client of RAOC, Michael received personalized job coaching from RAOC that helped him “find his way back” and integrate back into the workforce after a long recovery from his injury. Many times, RAOC job coaches must go above and beyond personally to help their clients during employment training…and Michael is no exception.

“My glasses had broken and I didn’t know how to get them fixed, and I was worried about that,” Michael says. But then Nessa stepped in and gave him advice and instructions on how to get his glasses fixed. “I was happy and appreciated it,” says Michael thankfully. Now, says Michael, “I have the bible and I can read that…and it’s enjoyable to be able to read every day.”

The reviews of clients like Michael say it all: “I have told people that I am working with you all and if they ever need a job to get in touch with you all!”
